Ms. Newberg has been a valued member of the CLA community for the past four years. During her time with us, she has served in several capacities, always stepping in where she’s needed most. This year, Ms. Newberg jumped into 3rd grade and is enjoying every minute of it! Ms. Newberg is a kind and dedicated educator who consistently builds meaningful connections with scholars and their families. Her care, positivity, and commitment to our school community shines through in everything she does.

Staff Spotlight - Ms. Sabrina
With nearly seven years of experience in education, four of those at CLA, Sabrina Tarrant brings both passion and purpose to her role as a dynamic instructional assistant. Outside of school, she enjoys watching college and NFL games, spending time with friends and family, reading, and collecting NFL trading cards. Her desire to work in education began at a young age, inspired by a teacher who recognized her potential before she recognized it herself. This helped shape her understanding of learning, effort, and confidence. Today, she strives to instill those same values in scholars by encouraging curiosity, exploration, and thoughtful questioning; emphasizing learning for understanding rather than just grades. Feeling truly blessed to do the work she loves, Mrs. Tarrant is committed to supporting scholars as they work toward achieving their future goals.

5th Graders took a trip to the Rogue River to release about 50 Salmon fry. Scholars each took a turn making their mark on nature as they watched their science observations float away.

Navigator Scholar Spotlight - Gavin P.
Gavin continues to make an impact every day through his pursuit of an Associate Degree within the Pathways Academy. As the Student Council President, he goes above and beyond to build a positive school culture and foster leadership amongst the student body. In the kitchen, his passion for culinary arts shines as he shares his skills by teaching middle school scholars at the Explorer campus, helping them build confidence and skills in the kitchen. For Gavin, cooking is the "truest form of love," a philosophy he applies whether he is preparing meals for his family or planning his future career. Looking ahead, he envisions opening a high-end restaurant, a community hangout spot, and a food truck, creating spaces where people can "taste the care and effort" put into every dish.
Gavin has officially committed to Southern Oregon University, where he will continue his academic journey and compete as a collegiate wrestler—a testament to his discipline, perseverance, and drive.

This month, we are thrilled to spotlight Ms. McCoy, a passionate Language Arts teacher at CLA whose love for literacy and literature shines through every lesson. Growing up in Southern Oregon, Ms. McCoy discovered her interest in education after a high school job shadow in a classroom sparked her curiosity. Her journey has taken her as far as Nebraska, where her experiences reinforced her decision to pursue teaching. Over the years, she has developed a special interest in working with high school students, enjoying the unique blend of academia, philosophy, and history that she can explore with them.

Navigator Scholar Spotlight - Ethyn W.
Ethyn is currently pursuing multiple significant goals that reflect both academic excellence and personal growth. At the top of the list of goals is the completion of an associate’s degree program at Rogue Community College! After years of consistent effort, Ethyn has completed 70 out of the 90 credits required, demonstrating both persistence and a commitment to higher education.

A heartfelt thank you to Retired Captain Dennis Jordan and Fire District #3 for presenting our November Career Chat. Our scholars thoroughly enjoyed learning about the wide range of careers within the fire service and the many pathways available to pursue them. The hands-on fire truck tour was a highlight, sparking curiosity and excitement, and our scholars asked many thoughtful questions thanks to the engaging and welcoming visit. We are grateful for your time, your expertise, and your commitment to inspiring our future leaders. Thank you for making this month’s Career Chat such a memorable experience!
